Rayigamaya and Gampalaya

Once upon a time, there were two good-for-nothing fellows named Raigamaya
and Gampalaya. They were not very clever, but they thought they were. One
day, they met up and shared an idea.

“Let’s start a business together!” said Gampalaya.

“That sounds fun! But what should we sell?” asked Raigamaya.

“Let’s gather things from the garden and sell them at the market.” suggested
Gampalaya.

Excited about their new venture, they set off to collect their goods.

Raigamaya collected palm seeds that look a lot like areca nuts and put them in a sack, while
Gampalaya gathered pepper leaves that look almost the same as betel leaves.

Since the market is so far away, they began their journey in the evening.

Along the way, Gampalaya asked, “What did you bring to sell?”

“I found some tasty areca nuts!” replied Raigamaya proudly.

“I brought these lovely betel leaves,” said Gampalaya.

As they walked, it grew late, so they stopped to rest in an Ambalama. Both friends were tired and
fell asleep.

Early in the morning, Gampalaya woke up first.

He saw Raigamaya’s sack of areca nuts and thought, “I’ll take this to the market
instead of my sack of pepper leaves!”.

A little later, Raigamaya woke up and saw Gampalaya’s sack of betel leaves. He
thought, “I’m lucky Gampalaya left his sack behind. I’ll take these to the market!”.

So, Gampalaya went to the market and told the vendor about the quality of the
areca nuts and asked for a good price. But when the sack was opened, it was full
of palm nuts! Gampalaya was so embarrassed.

The same thing happened to Raigamaya when he tried to sell the betel leaves.

In the end, they both tried to trick each other but ended up tricking themselves.

They learned that honesty is always the best way to do business.
